Welcome

Hi, thanks for checking my web page.

We live in the north-western part of the Netherlands, in a small town called De Rijp, about 40 km north-west of Amsterdam.

My name is Willem van Eijsden, born on 19-11-1968 in Rotterdam. I've had my ham licence since March 2000, first as PD2RYP and later renewed to PD5WVE.

I mostly enjoy portable work during holidays, and I'm often QRV on 40 m, mobile and at home. On holiday I use several home-made antennas: magnetic loops, verticals and dipoles. Mostly we look at the location first and then decide what antenna to build.

A little bit about De Rijp

De Rijp looks like a sleepy village with wooden houses and a canal, but in the 17th century it was a busy place. The men of De Rijp sailed out for herring and later went whaling up north, all the way to Greenland. Not bad for a village in a polder.

Its most famous son is Jan Adriaenszoon Leeghwater, born here in 1575. With his windmills he helped pump lakes like the Beemster dry, so you could say he turned water into land. He also designed our town hall from 1630.

In 1654 a big fire destroyed a large part of the village, but De Rijp was rebuilt and today it is full of old monuments. Quiet, green and wide open: a perfect spot for a ham radio station.

My own drone video of De Rijp. Not the best filming, but you get the idea!
